Ingredients
- 1 cup of packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup of shortening
- 1/4 cup of molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 1/4 cups of flour
- 2 teaspoons of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large bowl, beat brown sugar, shortening, molasses, and then egg. Stir in the remaining ingredients, except the sugar. (I like to beat the brown sugar and shortening until really smooth).
- Shape the dough into 1 1/2 inch balls. Dip the tops into the sugar.
- Place balls on an ungreased cookie sheet, with sugar side up, about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 13 to 16 minutes. Immediately remove from the cookie sheet to the cooling rack.

Would black strap molasses be okay?
ReplyDeleteI used Brer Raddit molasses, but I am sure you could use what brand you have to make these.
